Over 85% of our pets live inside our home and most people want pets to be house broken. House breaking does not have to be a struggle; it takes time, patience and a little love. Being consistent and patient will help make house training very short and easy.
There are simple rules to help train your puppy in the house. The first rule is if you don't see your pet defecate or urinate, then you can't punish your pet for doing so. Second rule of thumb is if your pet does go outside or where you are training your pet to go, then praise your pet for going. There are other methods involved in house training your pet, like crate training. Crate training is a method to train your pet to hold the bladder and bowels for a longer time. Most pets will not soil the place where they sleep, so this makes for a good method in house training. While this method works, make sure the crate or cage is not too big, because your pet will go in a corner and possibly make a giant mess of the cage or crate. You must maintain constant supervision, and keep a good ear open, because your pet will let you know when it's time to go.
Getting to know your pet during house training is the key to very short and easy house training. Be consistent, alert, patient, and calm. House training can be both a learning and loving experience for both the owner and the pet.
