Is There Such a Thing as a Non-Shedding Dog?

If you think logically you would realize there is no such thing as a totally non-shedding dog. Just as humans shed, a dog sheds some hair occasionally.  There is nothing worse than going into work wearing your dog. Luckily, there are dog breeds that shed very little.

One is a cute pup called an Affenpinscher. When looking at this dog you see long hair and automatically assume that this dog would shed buckets. The Affenpinscher looks like it just stepped out of one of L.A.’s premier salons with the latest jagged cut. They are adorable animals if you are looking for a small, minimally shedding dog.

Another small dog that you might be interested in would be the Havenese. This pup looks a lot like a Maltese or Shih Tzu. While they have long hair that would need managing, they are minimalists when it comes to shedding. If you are in the market for a more exotic pup then you might want to look into a Xoloitzcuintle, or Mexican hairless dog. This breed comes with and without hair, but the hairless is the most desired. Xolo’s come in three sizes: toy, mini, and standard.

There are critics out there that can't imagine ever owning a poodle. But if you're in the market for no shedding then you might want to throw those preconceived notions  aside. Poodles don't shed their coats because they are considered to have hair and not fur. And the new designer dog which is the mating between a standard poodle and a golden retriever has all the wonderful, loving characteristics of the golden while hardly shedding at all. It's called a goldendoodle and may be the best of both worlds.
