I just visited a website where I read about poverty in the United States. The statistics are alarming. Yet knowledge of this information in the general population is relatively unknown. Visit http://www.igoconservation.com/2008/09/23/lets-take-care-of-our-poverty-in-the-united-states.html to see what I mean.
Take, for example, dogs (of course). I often see ads on tv, with heart-tugging music, describing the plight of dogs without homes or food and water. Yet I can't think of one ad that I have seen for human beings without homes or food and water. There are also sympathy-producing ads for poor children living in other countries. It is explained just how little money we need to donate to improve their lives. Again, where are the ads about American children living in poverty?
This website has many interesting and varied posts. But this one, in particular, affected me deeply because I realize I know so little about the condition of the poor in the United States. Take the time to read this post and some of the others. You will be better informed about our people and our environment.
