Does Your Dog Drink Water Too Fast ... And Then Make Herself Sick? An Easy Fix!

A few of my friends have shared with me their common concern about their dogs. It seems the dogs occasionally vomit, and it's always just clear liquid.

I asked the owners questions about how their dog drank from their water bowl. First, I found out that the water bowls were not elevated. This is important. It's not just a fad or a trick to get you to spend money on a different water dish. Your dogs will digest the water in a more fluid manner if the water dish is at the right level.

The second thing I learned about their dogs is that, while they drink water, the dogs lap it up very quickly, hardly taking a breath and often spraying the floor next to the dish. If this describes your dog, and your dog sometimes throws up what appears to be the water, then your problem is an easy fix.

Your dog drinks too fast. Your dog gets an upset stomach and relieves her pain by throwing up some of the water she drank like, well, a pig (although I don't really know how pigs drink).

Solve this dilemma easily by placing something heavy in the center of your dog's water dish. Its diameter should be in proportion to the size of the dish, and allow enough room around it.

You can use a paperweight or other non-floating item that you have thoroughly cleaned with a mild detergent and then have rinsed thoroughly. I know someone who used a rock (clean, of course). I don't recommend anything breakable like a jar or cup. A plastic container filled with water will probably not be heavy enough; unless you have a small dog, the dog will be able to move the plastic container out of its way.

You can go out and purchase a water bowl. It will look like a: trough for water all the way around with a center island.

You want to make the target (water) a little bit of a challenge so your dog has to slow down while drinking. You will be surprised at how quickly your problem will be solved.
