Grapes, Raisins, and Chocolate

Sounds like a weird combination, doesn't it. The title is a list of foods that you should never allow your dog to have.

Grapes and raisins  taste good to us and they might taste delicious to your dog, but they could cause your dog to become  ill or even cause death. A friend of mine stopped at a bakery and bought raisin bread. He took it home, dropped it onto a chair, and ran back out (he was late). His dog grabbed the bread and ate it. Well, that poor dog had to go to the animal emergency room where she was hospitalized and given IV's. She's all better now but we were all scared. Every dog is different. Yours may not have a problem with grapes or raisins but most dogs do.

More commonly known is the problem with chocolate. I like chocolate and I know that dark chocolate is healthy for us in small amounts every day. Some people claim to eat a little at every meal. Again, it is different for your dog. One piece may or may not harm them, but lots of chocolate will, at the very least, make them feel unwell and probably cause diahrrea and vomiting. This, in turn, could lead to dehydration and your dog's hospitalization. With the holidays approaching, boxes of chocolates and homemade cookies containing chocolate bits are still very popular gifts. Don't let them within reach of your dog. Don't wrap them as presents and put them under your tree. Guess what. Your dog will sniff them out the moment you leave the house.

Give your dog lots of good treats for a happy and healthy dog and owner.
