This
title probably sounds a bit silly but it really is a good idea. When
you help your dog name each one of his toys and consistently call the
toy by the chosen name, you dog will associate that word with just that
one toy. Sure, it won't happen overnight but it will happen.
You and your dog can do parlor tricks for friends. My daughter-in-law
has her two dogs put away their toys every evening. She names the toy,
they pick it up and drop it into their toy chest. Yes, when I watch I
am jealous.
The best part of this practice is not to make your relatives jealous,
but to extend your dog's vocabulary, and that's always a good thing. As
your dog's vocabulary grows, you will discover more options to
stimulate your dog and encourage desirable behavior for you and a
reward for your dog.
