Keep Your Dog Healthy Throughout the Summer

Now is the perfect time to enjoy our dogs outside. Whether on a leash or running free near you, this is what your dog lives for and loves.

Keep your dog healthy this summer. Be sure your dog gets his heart worm pill every month.

I have my dogs vaccinated against lyme disease. You need to gauge the chance of your dog getting this dreaded disease. If you live in the city, you can probably forego this injection. However, if you take your dog to a dog park or for walks away from concrete, then it's something you need to consider. Ask your vet.

Every month my dogs get a topical flea and tick medication. There is some controversy about the use of this product, but I personally believe in its effectiveness. We live in the country with lots of semi-tame deer around and my dogs (so far -- 6 years) haven't even picked up a flea.

Check your dog's feet and especially his pads after each walk. He could have a tiny pebble between his pads, a thorn in one, or even have a "brushburn".

Have a healthy and active summer!
