European Dogs

My son gave me the opportunity to take my first trip to Europe last month, visiting 5 countries and staying 3 weeks. What an exciting adventure!

Throughout the trip, I couldn't help but notice dogs, since I missed my four dogs waiting for me at home, so I bFont Nameegan to really pay attention to where and when I saw dogs in Europe.

In the Czech Republic and Hungary, I saw very few dogs. A few on leashes walking with their owners but that was about all. I did see a few gorgeous golden retrievers.

Then I arrived in Germany. What a dog-loving country! There were dogs everywhere. I was in a department store and the shopper next to me had her dog next to her! Owners walked their dogs just about everywhere, or so it seemed.

We watched the Oktoberfest parade and there were numerous groups with dogs paying tribute to all types of working dogs. It was fun to watch.

We had lunch in the country overlooking beautiful scenery. At the table next to us was a couple and, of course, their dog was lying at their feet. I think he was a Boston terrier. At many of the outdoor cafes I noticed dogs participating in the restaurant experience.

I don't think I saw a sign anywhere that read "No Pets" but I'm sure there must be locations where they can't go. But there can't be many!

We continued our travel into Russia and then England. A few dogs here and there, but not like Germany.

I had a marvelous trip especially since I got to spend three weeks with my adult son. Some of the sites we visited were Prague; Budapest where we viewed the mummified hand of Saint Stephen; Munich where we enjoyed the start of Oktoberfest and all that excitement, and gorgeous castles; in Saint Petersburg we enjoyed Peter the Great's winter home and summer residence. Talk about decadence! The food was outstanding too. We attended the opening night of the Saint Petersburg Symphony which was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life. Finally off to London and Westminster Abbey which was so much more than I had ever imagined. And before heading home, we even saw Stonehenge.

When I finally reached my home, my dogs were way past ecstatic. What a fabulous way to be greeted. I was happy to be home but already missing the company of my son.

We were in Germany last year and my sister's German friend always took her dog every where even in the restaurants. The dog was very well behaved not begging or anything.
