Is your pup ready for Halloween? Many of us dress up our dogs in costumes and I think if they could, our dogs would tell us how embarrassed they are by our antics. But it's all in good fun. Our dogs dress up but don't even get the candy that kids get.
Be sure you don't give your dog some of the favorite treats of kids. Most of us have heard that chocolate is not in good taste for dogs even though it tastes good. Keep chocolate of all kinds out of reach of your clever pets.
An item that is less often mentioned is xylotil. This ingredient can be found in almost all brands of sugarless gum. It is very dangerous for dogs. Dogs can experience not only gastric distress but far worse. Keep your sugarless gum away from your dogs. Don't keep the gum in your purse where your dog will sniff it out. There are so many flavors of sugarless gum and most of them smell really yummy, making it irresistible to dogs. It's your job as owner not to allow your dog to chew gum (or swallow it).
More information on dogs and Halloween in future blogs. As you prepare or gather your dog's costume, please try to remember his self-respect. Send in your photos of your dogs in costume (or without costume). Happy Howling!
