Dog Obedience Classes

Dogs are certainly wonderful pets for just about everyone with a bit of training. However, some dogs are more difficult to train than others, and some people have less time or natural inclination for dog training than others. Dog obedience classes are a good option for people with dogs that need basic dog training, but may not be a good option for overly aggressive or dangerous dogs.

Many dogs are highly intelligent creatures capable of responding to all sorts of commands. Of course, they must be trained to respond to these commands, which takes either a dedicated owner or an acceptable dog trainer. Dog obedience classes are taught by individuals trained in working with dogs. They should be able to teach them how to sit, stay, and heel. These are the three most common and useful instructions for all dogs. There are plenty of other commands, but, once a dog has been trained to respond to the previous three, it should not be difficult to train them to respond to others. Another aspect of some dog training classes is training people to train dogs. A good trainer will show owners how to get better control of their animals. Some trainers will even help owners with crate training a puppy.

Not all dogs are ready for dog obedience classes. Overly aggressive dogs that bite, bark excessively, nip, or lunge at people or other animals should not be taken to these classes. Instead, these dogs need behavioral training courses that focus on a dog's specific needs and rectify personal problems. Most dogs with such behavioral problems simply have learned to be dominating with people or other animals, and dog obedience courses would be asking of too much submission from these dominant dogs.
